La
Paz Fishing
The
Sportfishing charters off Las Arenas, which are rich
with game fish, can be booked directly through the hotel
at the reception desk.
The
waters surrounding La
Paz offer some of the most prolific fishing on the
Peninsula. In past years, La Paz was seldom visited
except by a few campers with cartop boats and seasonal
commercial fishermen. Quickly, the word is getting out
that here may well be the best variety of gamefish available
anywhere in the Sea of Cortez.
"Here
the concept of fishing from skiffs really comes into
its own. Extensive boulder-strewn and sandy shallows
form ideal habitat for large numbers of roosterfish,
plus plenty of pargo and cabrilla. The channel between
La Paz and Isla Cerralvo is a well-used pathway for
migrating pelagics. It is not unusual for dorado or
wahoo to appear close to shore. Acrobatic robalo and
speedy toro ripping up light tackle and roosterfish
grabbing bait within 100 feet of shore, with huge pargo
colorado and cabrilla, to 8 pounds pounding scampi tails
from the rocks."
